A year ago today we were packing up to head back to Ukraine to have our court hearing. Our facilitator had been unable to confirm with the judge that our hearing was going to happen - so we did have the thought in our mind that this might not happen - but we were packing up and heading out. Anastasia got in bed with us this morning and wanted to talk all about what happened when we came back to get her.
We'll post some Christmas pics later - but wanted to share this picture. I was doing some searching on the internet trying to find a charity that specifically supported Anastasia's orphanage. I found this picture. It was taken on September 1, 2005, the first day of school in Ukraine. The really crazy thing - this picture was taken just hours before we met her. We couldn't visit the orphanage until the afternoon cause they had gone on a field trip and they told us that they do all kinds of things to celebrate the first day of school. We know all the kids in the picture - they are all from her orphanage. Anastasia is on the 2nd row to the right. The director of the orphanage is to ANastasia's right. Crazy huh - at that moment Anastasia was thinking is was just another first day of school - and we were back in our apartment in Kiev - praying for her. We consider this as a gift - to have an image of her face on that amazing morning. Will post more Christmas pics of all four kids later. It was a great Christmas. Hope yours was too.

I got goosebumps. How wonderful to have a picture of her hours before you met her. You are right, it is an incredible gift. We who have adopted children know that we have very few pictures of our kids showing the passage of time. I wish for their sake I had some baby pictures. This will be a picture to treasure always.
