We received word last week from friends in Ukraine that there were changes made as far as who had authority over adoptions in Ukraine. Long boring story - but basically the Ukrainian government has transferred the authority to another "branch" in the government so the old regime at the National Adoption Center (NAC) no longer has any authority, but the "new authority" is not yet in place. (This was the same type of thing that delayed our initial court hearing in September - they put a new law in place, effective immediately, but the courts weren't prepared to operate under the new law) So there are families who have traveled for their appointments, and are now being told that it will be weeks before they can have an appointment - some are being told to go home. We have been told by facilitators over there that we should be okay - as in this point of the processing we no longer need any paperwork from the NAC. Our facilitator is going to see the judge tomorrow to make sure that all is fine with our paperwork and things can progress as scheduled. We need to get our new airline tickets - as our others expired - and will do that by Friday as we want to get them at least 14 days in advance.
On a lighter note - the girl who lives in Grandmother's apartment sent us some pictures of Anastasia over the internet. That was an awesome Christmas gift! We have also received several emails - Grandma and Anastasia did not go out of town as planned, instead they have relatives visiting them.
So our prayer request for you guys is once again that all goes as planned and we have our hearing on January 16 - and get her home shortly after that. Thanks for checking in on us!
